We chose the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico for our winter 2018-2019 adventures. After hearing stories of Xcalak, Quintana Roo — just 10 km from the Belize border — from Canadian friends, we became starstruck with visions of weeks of snorkelling on an isolated off-grid, pristine beach. Within days we had booked 3 weeks at a small inn on the beach 8 km north of the tiny pueblo. From there we planned to head to Mérida and Progreso for our remaining travel time. Of course, life tends to get in the way of plans and, en route to México we actually got wind of a dog and home sit over Christmas in Playa del Carmen. Within days it was arranged and Progreso was cancelled. With time to spare after Playa, and hearing great things about Valladolid from another friend — we decided to book our remaining time there. Read on for details of our Mexico adventures!
