In the fall of 2015, we began our retirement travels in Southeast Asia, moving through nine countries in about nine months: Bali & Gili Air, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Viet Nam, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Nepal. With a combination of photos and story-telling, I present here interviews with several exceptional individuals who I met on our travels. Each had had an extraordinary life-altering experience and told me the story. A monk practicing at a monastery in Thailand, a 2004 tsunami survivor in Sri Lanka, a family of 2014 earthquake survivors in Nepal, a Tibetan family living in a settlement in Nepal – all had fascinating stories to tell. I also recount here our trek in Nepal (out of Pokhara), describing the highs and lows (pun intended) of our five day Poon Hill trek in the mountains of Nepal, as well as various snapshots from our time in these lands. Gritty and stark at times, still our Asian travels are an experience we cherish.
