I began to write WORLD ENCOUNTERS in 2015, when I retired and began travelling with my partner, Aaron. We shared a dream of travelling unfettered, taking long chunks of time to experience the world without those niggling anxieties about ‘things’ we might have to deal with at home. How would we achieve that peace of mind while travelling? By owning nothing! Or very little anyway. To this end, we endeavoured, over the last years of our working lives, to sell and give away almost everything we owned, including selling cars and homes. Of course, we have family and friends with whom we wanted continued relationships, but in this technological age, we knew that all things are possible.
And so it had been proven, as we have travelled Asia, Europe, Latin America, Baja, US, Cyprus, Morocco, Great Britain, Mexico and Canada in a wide variety of travel adventure modes. Flying, bussing, boating and motoring by RV, we had been on the road for 9+ years before settling in April 2024 in Comox, BC Canada. Fabulous spot! However, travel is not over, especially in the winter when it gets a bit dark and wet here in paradise. We still love to take some time in the year to explore the world! So, I invite you to join me as I share my experiences, thoughts, insights and feelings and the accounts of others who I’ve encountered along the way too. It’s a big world, filled with delightful discoveries. Enjoy the journey!

Hi Kath, This is Ming Lee, who you meet at the beach in Dominical after your brush with the incoming tide. We arrived back home last night after a few glorious days near Carrarra National park. Costa Rica is so lovely! We will definitely return.
Best wishes, Ming Lee from Rhode Island USA

Hi,
Just read your comprehensive summary about the Ruta Puuc visit and will be there later this week. Do you happen to know if it is okay to bring a small dog on the archaeological sites? I cannot find information anywhere….thank you!

Hi Steve, I didn’t see anyone with a dog, yet there are resident dogs at several of the sites. I think it would be fine, especially if leashed. Rules in Mexico tend to be more relaxed. Sorry I can’t give a definite answer to your question.

Hi Kath and Aaron,
I have been trying to contact you through house sitters Canada but I am unable to login,..perhaps because I registered from Nicaragua?
I have ended up here to try and contact you about farm sitting in Nicaragua. Is there a button I am missing on this page to email you?

I am an unknown James. My wife and I found your profile on HouseSitters.ca and I set up an account to contact you but was unsuccessful so I followed your blog link.
Your adventures in Panama caught our eye and thought you might like to look after our farm in Nicaragua.
My wife got Canadian residency so we have to go and would like to be there so our 5 year old daughter can start school with the rest of the kids in September.
I will continue to administer the passion fruit (5 acres) and our foreman lives up at the gate and he and the workers take care of pretty much everything, cows, fruit, fencing etc but we would like somebody in the house to look after our dogs (and cat, Pierre)
Thanks for your time, James

Hello James — September is earlier than we will want to travel to a warm country. You will want to set up a profile and ad with a worldwide house sitting company for your Nicaragua sit. Only Canadian locations are on the House Sitters Canada platform. You could try Housecarers, Mind My House or Trusted House Sitters. Best luck! Kath

Thanks Kath,.. maybe we will hit you up again in November if we have no takers. my wife has to be in Canada by years end to fulfill her residency commitments…
I was on HSC just because I trust Canadians slightly more than others, being Canadian myself.
